What is the Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend?

The BIG Weekend is an annual Park-wide nature festival celebrating the unique and beautiful landscapes and wildlife of the Cairngorms. It happens every year, and this year falls on the weekend of the 13th-15th May.

There is a huge range of events including guided walks, talks, trails, experiences, activities and challenges for people to get involved with and we are hosting everything on our website and spreading the message far and wide, bringing in visitors from across Scotland and beyond.

Where is it?

The BIG Weekend covers the whole of the Cairngorms National Park - an area bigger than some countries and home to one-quarter of Scotland's native forest; one-third of the UK land above 600 meters; and a quarter of the rare and endangered species in the UK! There are events happening in all major towns as well as events that will allow you to explore the more remote, wild parts of the Park.

You can see all the events and activities pinned on the Map page!

Who is involved?

It is designed to bring together people, organisations and businesses who love, support and depend upon the nature and wildlife of the Cairngorms National Park.

That includes community groups, musicians, national conservation charities, outdoor pursuits businesses, storytellers, land owners, libraries, museums and so many more! The Cairngorms Nature BIG Weekend is a huge team effort - resulting in a festival built by the people of the Cairngorms to celebrate this special place.
